Why is there poverty? Poverty is defined as the state of being poor; lack of the means of providing material needs or comforts. Extreme poverty states people with less than a US dollar per day. However, if it is converted to other currency,it may be a lot of money. Hence, the perception of poverty in different country differs. For instance, in Singapore, there are three types of poverty- the chronic poor whereby these people have very little education and have problems finding or holding to jobs, the transient poor, people who are being retrenched, declared bankrupt or mishaps such as accidents, the destitue people who are with no support and no hope of employment. However, in Africa, the povery lies with people with poor water and sewage sanitation, depending on natural resources such as trees to survive. In every country, the line of poverty defers and today, I shall try my first essay on the extreme cases of developing countries' poverty.
There are many reasons why a country remains poor. One of the main reasons is the unstability of the government. When a country switches government every year, there is no stability in the political system of the country. Different government will set different directions for the country and different government will have different priorities and concerns for the country. If a country has different governments or political parties to govern the country, the most likelihood is that the country will be thrown into confusion and most of the resources being put into will not have beared fruits. Secondly, when you have different government or political parties ruling, there will be different policies. The existing policies may be replaced by the new policies or are stopped. Hence, if these policies are being stopped or replaced, the resources to implement these policies will be a waste and not be able to work out effectively. Another leading factor is corruption. If a government is corrupted, the most likelihood is that the resources and monetary funds taken will not be put in good use or for the purpose of the countries, hence, development stay still. Secondly, it also leads to demonstrations of the people leading to the social unstability of the country. This would lose hope in investors and hence, investors may put out their operation in that countries and as a result, the country will plumment into a worse state.
Another main reason why country end up poor is due to natural disaters and unforeseen circumstances. Natural disaters damaged properties and lives. Hence, when a poor country is struck by a catastrophe, it would add on to the already heavy burden or worsen the situation of porverty. The worse part of it is that when the government had already developed the places and waiting for it to bear fruit and before long, a catastrophe struck that area, all his resources and effort had gone to waste, hence, it would be a very sad sad sad case!!!
The last reason I would like to point out is health of the people. In African countries, the people living there are being threatened by AIDS and AIDS in these countries are hiting the population hard. As these people are supposed to run the economy and take up jobs in the future and when the countries' health is poor, there would be no way that these people who are ill to be able to take up jobs. I know you may say there is acure to these dieases but the medical costs are often expensive and the country is unable to pull out more resources to help these people as funds are often very limited and targeted in other areas. Hence, when things like that happen, the country will remain poor and it would have become a viscous cycle then..........
